Shanghai Yongmaotai Automotive Technology (605208.SH), a Chinese recycled-aluminum producer and die casting supplier, announced on September 22, 2026 that it plans to raise up to RMB 998 million, roughly USD 140 million, through a private A-share placement, directing the bulk of it to magnesium alloy precision components and a new manufacturing base in Mexico. For North American buyers of die castings, the Mexico line is the part to watch: a planned three million turbocharger housings per year, built outside China to hedge trade-policy risk.
Where the RMB 998 Million Goes
The placement will issue no more than 98.982 million shares, capped at 30% of existing share capital, to no more than 35 specific investors. After issuance expenses, the proceeds split across four destinations:
| Destination | Placement Funds | Key Details |
|---|---|---|
| Magnesium alloy precision components (Anhui/Chongqing) | RMB 520 million | Total investment RMB 598 million; 24-month build; at full capacity: 4.5 million magnesium auto parts plus 350,000 sets of robot lightweight components per year |
| Mexico automotive components base | RMB 288 million | Total investment RMB 353 million; 24-month build; at full capacity: 3 million turbocharger housings per year |
| Smart-equipment precision component R&D | RMB 50 million | Includes robotics-oriented component development |
| Working capital | RMB 140 million | Supports raw-material stocking and ramp-up |
The company framed the Mexico project as a way to respond flexibly to changes in international trade policy and supply-chain disruption, while cutting transport cost and delivery time for North American customers. Its existing customers BorgWarner and Boma Technology already operate capacity in Mexico.
Magnesium Revenue Doubled Before the Placement
The fundraising follows a strong first half. Yongmaotai reported H1 2026 revenue of RMB 2.985 billion, up 13.94% year on year, with net profit up 306.94% to RMB 80.4 million. Its magnesium business, organized as a dedicated unit with its own research institute in March 2025, generated RMB 19.26 million in the half, already double its full-year 2025 figure of RMB 9.45 million.
The build-out behind those numbers is substantial: more than 20 magnesium die casting lines covering 650 to 7,000 tonnes of clamping force, ten semi-solid forming presses from 950 to 6,600 tonnes on order with the first already in small-batch production, and over 100 new magnesium machining centers. Named customers and partners include BYD, XPeng, SAIC, General Motors, Volkswagen, and Luxshare Precision, with large-scale magnesium deliveries expected to start in the second half of 2026.
Three Signals From One Placement
- Magnesium is moving from showcase to volume. Presses up to 7,000 tonnes, semi-solid capacity on order, and named OEM programs mean large magnesium structural and e-drive castings are becoming quotable at production scale, not just at prototype level.
- Nearshoring is now a Chinese supplier strategy too. A Chinese die caster building Mexican capacity to serve North America confirms that tariff-hedged, region-for-region supply is becoming standard. Buyers qualifying Chinese suppliers can now ask for a Mexico routing option in the same conversation.
- Robotics is pulling on the same capacity. The 350,000-set robot component target and the dedicated R&D line show humanoid and automation demand landing on the same casting and machining resources that serve automotive. On large structural parts, expect capacity to tighten before it loosens.
How We Read This at Meituo
Yongmaotai's program is a checklist of where the industry is heading: dual aluminum-magnesium capability, semi-solid running alongside high-pressure die casting, machining and surface treatment integrated with casting, and capacity placed close to the customer's market. We run our own aluminum die casting programs on the same integrated model, with 20 machines from 160T to 1650T, in-house mold making, machining and finishing under one roof, and spectrometer verification on every melt lot. If you are qualifying second sources or reviewing your China-plus-one options for aluminum or zinc castings, send us the drawing and annual volume, and our engineers will return a manufacturing capabilities and cost assessment.
